Overview

Advocacy is at the core of what we do. We are engaged at both the provincial and federal levels to ensure that our industry can function efficiently, while also being a good corporate citizen. Through decades of advocacy, Fertilizer Canada has developed strong relationships with countless government officials and politicians at various levels. We are precise and effective.

We seek to be seen as a sustainable, innovative, and ready-for-growth industry; one that will continue to lead the Canadian agricultural sector in exports. Fertilizer Canada and our members work to engage government and show that we are positively impacting the environment, the economy, and the social fabrics of Canadian life.

Transportation

As the third largest commodity shipped by rail, we make sure that our products get where they’re going, when they’re meant to. We advocate for rail as an essential service, the need to make our railroads more reliable and efficient, and continuously improving the safety of all modes of transport.

Products

Our products are innovative and essential to global food security. As such, we are constantly monitoring and advocating for a fair, science-based approach to regulations that may impact our products registration or use.

Environment

Concerned about reducing emissions, while minimizing the impact of new regulations to our industry? We study and advocate for provincial and federal plans that are science-based, pragmatic and innovative, and seek buy-in from the fertilizer industry and our farmer consumers.

Nutrients

We help reconcile two needs: growing the world’s food production while reducing global emissions. For more than a decade, Fertilizer Canada has led and continues to invest in the development of 4R Nutrient Stewardship. 4Rs is recognized by provincial emission-reduction plans as the standard for soil conservation, and now we’re working with the federal government for national recognition.

Global Fertilizer Day

Global Fertilizer Day is an international awareness campaign initiated by Fertilizers Europe and supported by fertilizer associations and companies around the world with the goal of bringing awareness to the important role fertilizer brings as the backbone of the agricultural industry and to feeding the world.

What’s In It 4R Me?

4R Nutrient Stewardship (Right Source @ the Right Rate, Right Time, and Right Place ®) was developed to help crop-producers minimize environmental concerns related to agriculture while maximizing economic benefits. So, what’s in it for you?

Nutrients For Life

A registered charitable organization committed to bringing educational materials to the classroom, focusing on soil science and agricultural sustainability.

Safety & Security

The safety of our industry, its workers, and the Canadians that rely on our products is always our highest priority. We mange three world-leading Codes of Practice for specific fertilizer use, while also working proactively with first responders, farmers, and other stakeholders to train them in case of accident.

Urban

Fertilizer isn’t just for farmers; we are always making sure that individuals have access to fertilizer, whether it’s for your herb garden or your roses. We work with all levels of government to ensure that fertilizer is appropriately stored, used, and disposed of, and to foster regulation that reflects this reality.

Lawn & Garden Care – Greener World

Fertilizers are food for plants. Fertilizer helps farmers feed our growing population. Plants require 17 essential nutrients in the soil to survive and to grow. Fertilizers help replenish these nutrients after each harvest.
