Canadian Fertilizer Institute Encouraged by Government’s Appointment of a Facilitator to Negotiate A - November 01, 2011

The Canadian Fertilizer Institute (CFI) is encouraged by an announcement made today by Transport Canada and the Canadian Government to appoint  Mr. Jim Dinning of Alberta as the Facilitator engaged to assist railways and commercial shippers agree on the establishment of a fair and balanced commercial dispute resolution process and a service level agreement template.

The report clearly highlights the interdependence of the fertilizer industry and the agricultural sector. Fertilizer markets for the main nutrients – nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) – have fully recovered from the downturn in 2008/09.

CFI Hours of Service Exemption - March 25, 2011

The Canadian Fertilizer Institute has been working with Transport Canada on a limited exemption for its Commercial Vehicle Hours of Service Regulations to allow for more flexibility in the rules governing trucking hours of service for fertilizer delivery during the spring and fall seasons. The application was for the delivery of liquid fertilizer and anhydrous ammonia within Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta.  

On Friday, March 25 CFI received confirmation that Minister Strahl has approved our application for a limited exemption for spring and fall delivery of liquid fertilizer and anhydrous ammonia.
